Dermal Fillers

Young skin is smooth and elastic. As we get older our skin and lips start to lose volume, and our face starts to feel the effects of gravity. Now there is a natural product that adds volume to your skin and lips with natural looking results. Dermal fillers are known for their ability to plump and add volume to the skin, smooth out wrinkles and lines, restore contours to the face and create fuller natural looking lips. Not only will dermal fillers enhance your facial features; they will also make you look and feel more confident.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers use a natural substance called hyaluronic acid that closely resembles a naturally occurring material in the body. Hyaluronic acid is responsible for maintaining hydration in our skin. This hydration keeps the tissue beneath the skin firm and healthy - vital for making it appear fuller and smoother. Dermal fillers differ significantly in thickness and will thus be used for different areas in the face lasting from 4 to 12 months.

How does it work?

The injectable gel is injected into the skin using a fine needle to temporarily fill the area of concern. The specially designed Dermal Filler gel will provide support and structure needed to add volume to the skin and restore the youthful contours of the face.

In what areas can it be used?

In general Dermal Fillers are used in the lower facial area to restore contour in areas like the nasiolabial fold or crease between the corner of the nose and the mouth, to restore or enhance fullness to the lip area, to restore and improve little lines in the face or contours through the cheek area or tear trough hollows underneath the eyes. Other common areas for treatment with dermal fillers include; chin, nose, brows, mouth corners and wrinkles (static wrinkles).

Are there any complications/ side effects?

There may be side effects post treatment, including mild redness, swelling, bruising, itching, temporary lumpiness or discoloured patches may occur. In some people redness and swelling may last for two to three days and the small number of people may experience redness and swelling arising days or weeks after the treatments and lasting several weeks.

How long will my improvement last?

Most people choose to receive a repeat treatment within 6 to 18 months depending on what type of filler is used and where they are injected. Top ups might be needed before that for some clients who need that extra volume. Without treatment the correction gradually fades and the skin will gradually return to its original appearance.

Are treatments painful?

The smooth consistency of hyaluronic acid and the added local anaesthetic can significantly reduce the amount of pain during the filler procedure. It is possible to fill a sensitive area like the lips with minimal discomfort.

Can dermal fillers be combined with anti-wrinkle injections?

Dermal fillers are commonly used in conjunction with anti-wrinkle injections that help to relax the muscle. Anti-wrinkle injections relax the underlying muscle that causes expression lines, and dermal fillers provide volume to fill in static lines.
